Slated
By Teri Terry
- Goodreads -
Kyla’s memory has been erased,
her personality wiped blank,
her memories lost for ever.
The government claims she was a terrorist, and that they are giving her a second chance - as long as she plays by their rules. But echoes of the past whisper in Kyla’s mind. Someone is lying to her, and nothing is as it seems. Who can she trust in her search for the truth?

Wow, I just finished Slated and I have no words so I am very sorry if this review is sloppy. I got recommended this by Sunny and I am so glad I decided to borrow it from the library and read it. I'll start off with the cover which is great. It's quite spooky and I love how her eyes really stand out. The girl is meant to be Kyla and I got to say that it is really easy imagine Kyla as looking like her.
One thing that is really noticeable about this book is the writing style. Often I say this as every author's writing is unique but this one is extremely different and it sort of reminded me of Shatter Me as that writing style is very unique as well. You sometimes think that the writing is childish but it makes sense due to the whole thing of being Slated. So I love how the author has done this and it's obvious she has put great time and effort in creating the character.
Going on from that last point about the character, the protagonist of this story is Kyla and I loved reading from her perspective. The confusion, anger, sadness, and curiosity of her past is truly outstanding and very believable so it is obvious as you are reading that her character grows as she learns more and more about the truth so the character development is brilliant in this book. Kyla has to go through a lot with all the struggles she is faced with and it's interesting how she always somehow comes through.
Also, one key factor about all the characters is that you don't know who to trust. There are so many character who you think are nice but then they say or do something that makes you suspicious. I think that is what created a lot of the suspense whilst reading and it was always gripping to see what happened next.
Overall I thought this was a brilliant and incredibly unique story which I had me turning pages for hours. It was a well paced novel and it had a great touch of romance. I thought this book was a really good science fiction but a lot of people say it's dystopian as it is set in the future but I think science fiction can also have a futuristic theme to it so this book seems to be teetering on the edge of science fiction and dystopian. I don't think it matters how you classify it.

Great Review Francoise! I'm so glad you enjoyed "Slated" it's a brilliant novel. Terri Terry is so talented and you will not be disappointed with Fractured, it might be better then Slated I reckon.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to read this one. It sounds brilliant. The very idea of a supposed terrorist with her memory wiped just makes me shiver and yet want to run and buy the book.
ReplyDeleteMarian ^_^ x
