{Discussion} Rebound Books
This is just a quick discussion of thoughts of mine on an issue that comes up quite often in my reading life. So have you heard the saying when you just get out of a relationship and you immediately move into another to fill that void in your heart and they call that the 'Rebound Relationship'. Well I'm applying this to books.
You know that feeling you get when you just finishes an amazing series or book and you have that thought, 'What do I do now'. So of course you immediately jump into another book and even though it could be a brilliant read it's just not the same! Or maybe you stall for time and eventually you fall into a bit of a slump and you have no motivation to read anything else!
This is one of the only down falls to reading amazing books. It sets your standards too high and no single book can match that. So what's the cure to this?

I actually don't have any suggestions because even when I have a book hangover, I usually jump into my straight book right away - I can't NOT ever be reading a book! Great discussion Francoise, I'm eager to see what everyone else thinks.

This happens to me so often! My solution to this problem was to start my blog because now I feel more motivated to read new books because I will get to review it.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds very familiar to me. My solution is to just read more and more! :)

ReplyDeleteWhen I get in a reading slump, I usually check out raving reviews of various reviews to get myself pumped to read again! Book hangovers are the best, though--I love thinking about a book nonstop and getting lost in the world. Lovely discussion, Francoise!

This definitely does happen :( But it's thankfully only temporary and once I get into the next book, my expectations drift away but actually getting to start it is difficult because I'm so hungover the other book :P
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting my blog! <3
ReplyDeleteThat's so cool that you also want to be an astronomer! :D
Haha I would usually go to tumblr and reblog lots of fanart -- who knows they might cure my bookish hangover :D
ReplyDeleteOMG THIS HAPPENS TO ME ALL THE TIME FRANCOISE. But the rebound relationship just isn't the same and feels empty. It ruins some good books. It's usually a series that makes me like this. When I've been with characters and a storyline for so long and suddenly...I've finished. I just stop reading and walk around aimlessly, wanting to experience it all again.
ReplyDeleteSometimes, you need good ol' rebound book, and sometimes it turns into something more, haha.
Great discussion Francoise!
