“I’ve left some clues for you.
If you want them, turn the page.
If you don’t, put the book back on the shelf, please.”
So begins the latest whirlwind romance from the bestselling authors of Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist. Lily has left a red notebook full of challenges on a favorite bookstore shelf, waiting for just the right guy to come along and accept its dares. But is Dash that right guy? Or are Dash and Lily only destined to trade dares, dreams, and desires in the notebook they pass back and forth at locations across New York? Could their in-person selves possibly connect as well as their notebook versions? Or will they be a comic mismatch of disastrous proportions?
Rachel Cohn and David Levithan have written a love story that will have readers perusing bookstore shelves, looking and longing for a love (and a red notebook) of their own

Dash & Lily's Book of Dares is the first contemporary book I've read this year and I am more than happy with my choice. Going into this book I knew there was a lot of hype surrounding it so I was very hesitant of reading it. But now I regret that decision because I wished I had read this sooner. Dash & Lily's Book of Dares is a quick read that is good for when you're seeking for a light and funny story. The characters are truly memorable and and the story I won't easily forget. It makes me want to just place my own little red notebook of dares at my closest book store to see who would come across it.
The first thing I noticed about this story was the creativity of it plot. No way would I have ever thought of such a clever idea and for a contemporary at that. I'm not an expert in this genre but I can guess that you get a lot of cliche plot-lines and the good ones and this one falls under the latter. This story kept me hooked from page one, wondering what the next outrageous dare would be.
This is my first taste of writing by David Levithan and I have to say I was impressed. Sometimes I was a little confused with the words but it only helped widen my vocabulary. I don't usually like the changing of point of views but this story worked so well and I wouldn't have given it a high rating otherwise. It was nice seeing the other person in different perspectives and for once I liked a male protagonist.
I loved the characters and how they are so different from your average person. We have Lily who is nice, caring and always the odd one out and then Dash who is a highly intelligent character. In some ways they are polar opposites as one loves Christmas and the other doesn't and one relies heavily on family and the other is more on the independent side yet they both work as a cute couple. One thing I loved was the way the characters interacted with each other and the type of relationships they build with one another.
Overall I thought this was a cute novel which didn't take me long to complete (260 pages!). I highly recommend it to you if you have nothing else to read and you're just looking for a light and quick read. Dash & Lily's Book of Dares was my first and won't be the last contemporary I'll read this year!

So glad you enjoyed this. Contemporary is the best and this is only the beginning in a wide scale of contemporary amazingness. This sounds so cute, such a creative storyline. I love quick fun reads so I'll be seeking this out soon. Great Review!
ReplyDeleteI've been wanting to read this for awhile! Glad you enjoyed it, and hopefully I'll get to read it sometime soon! I read Everyday by David Levithan, and while I didn't think it was anything special, I did enjoy it. Thanks for sharing! :)
ReplyDeleteOmg this looks so cute! I'm not really in th mood for contemporaries atm, but I'll keep this at the top of my to-read list!

I love contemporaries with a really creative plot to it. It just makes the book all the more fun and interesting to read. I'll definitely need to read this one. :)
ReplyDeleteFunny you review this actually because I was just contemplating buying it! It does look awesome so I'm glad you enjoyed it, the premise seems really unique and cool. I'm not an expert on Contemporary either lol, I just ask people and go on Goodreads to see what people like best!
