Harry Potter - Would You Rather? (TAG)

Hey guys, this post was inspired by Booktastic Reviews as I don't know who the original person who created this tag is. I find this post really fun to read and I decided to do one myself as I am a massive Harry Potter fan.
So here are my answers:

Would you rather go to the prom with Harry, Draco or Ron?
Ok this question is kind of hard but easy at the same time. Draco is already out of the equation as I think he would be incredibly boring to go with. So it's out of Ron or Harry...I would love to go with either of them but I'm going to have to choose Harry. Sorry Ron!

Would you rather be sorted into Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff or Slytherin?
I've never been on Pottermore before so I don't know what my results are. My friends and I have had a major discussion about this topic but for some reason they can never get mine. They all have different answers but they always say I would definitely not be in Hufflepuff. But for which house I'd rather be in, I would have to choose Gryffindor!

Would you rather explore the forbidden forest or the halls of Hogwarts?
To be honest I would rather explore the halls of Hogwarts because even Dumbledore said he didn't know all of them. Just imagine if there was an even cooler room than the Room of Requirement.

Would you rather enroll in Potions, Charms, Divination or Defence Against The Dark Arts?
I would rather enroll in Defence Against The Dark Arts as long as it's not taught by Umbridge no questions asked. I reckon it would be the best class ever! But I still think any of those classes would be cool.

Would you rather buy an owl, cat, rat or toad?
Ok, I hate rats and toads so it's out of the cat and the owl. I think the cat would get annoying after a while so I choose the owl. And plus it would be cool to have your own Hedwig!

Would you rather have in possession: the elder wand, resurrection stone, or the cloak of invisibility?
To me this is a pretty easy question. I definitely don't want the resurrection stone as it can drive people insane. And besides I don't have anyone I wish to resurrect. The Elder Wand would be pretty damn cool but I wouldn't feel accomplished at anything if it was winning every dual for me so obviously I choose the cloak of invisibility. It would be so awesome being able to sneak up on people and going in the restricted section of the library.

Would you rather be tutored by Luna Lovegood or Hermione Granger?
Well duh, Hermione! I love Luna and all but she would not help me pass my OWL's. And I think Luna would just annoy me after a while.

Would you rather (in the final battle) fight against Nagini (the snake) or Bellatrix?
This is a hard question. Both Nagini and Bellatrix are scary...but I guess it comes to survival. Bellatrix is a strong witch who could probably beat me anyday and 'sides, Molly has her handled. But then again Neville has Nagini handled as well so...I think I'd help Neville fight Nagini.

Would you rather fight a basilisk or a dragon?
I'd rather fight neither of them but to answer the question probably the Dragon. At least with the dragon your in an open space and the teachers are watching so if they had to intervene they could. If you fight the Basilisk, you have Tom Riddle hiding somewhere and your in a closed space and that Basilisk is fast!

Would you rather be a part of the Malfoy family or Weasley family?
This is probably the easiest question! Weasley's duh! Is that even a question? There house is hectic and there would be no boring moments whatsoever. (and then there are the twins)

Would you rather have a butterbeer or pumpkin juice?
Butterbeer no questions asked...

Would you rather fly on a broomstick, Hagrid's motorbike or Buckbeak?
Easy question. definitely Buckbeak! It would be cool to be able to fly either way but for some reason I'd feel safer on Buckbeak and hippogriff's are just awesome.

Would you rather have a conversation with Daniel Radcliffe or J.K. Rowling?
Argh! This is such a hard question, either of them would be cool to talk to. If you talked to Daniel you could ask about what it's like to be an actor and being part of the cast and stuff and then when you talk to J.K. Rowling you could ask heaps of questions. I think at the end of the day I'd rather speak to J.K. Rowling!

So here are all my answers. I hope you enjoyed this post and please feel free to drop a comment.

Two Diva's Bookish Discussions

Hi we're Francoise and Sunny and we have known each other since our nappy days. We're constantly having rants and raves about the latest books and bookish news. This is a fortnightly discussion that you can find on both of our blogs, so please make sure to stop by both blogs as our written content is different, although on the same topic. Our posts are not intended to offend anyone or anything but this is just our opinions and we would love it if you would share your thoughts in the comments below. This is a new feature we decided to add and the purpose is not only for you to get to know more about us but for you to be able to join in and have fun.

Penguin Teen Live

24/06/2013

I just came back from the Penguin Teen book event in the Kinokuniya  book store in the city and I have to say that I got a nice surprise. I came to this event with low expectations as I haven't really heard much about Penguin before. My friend Sunny was the one who told me about the event and we decided to go together. To be honest I really wanted to go just to see her as we don't see each other often but as we got into it I really found it entertaining.

We met a writer called Will Kostakis who gave us a signed copy of his new book called The First Third. He read us a few pages from it and I am excited to read it as he is a very funny author. He was a great person to listen to as he had really funny stories to tell about himself about how he got into his career. I really hope that he'll become a well known writer as I think he has great potential and I believe every writer should get a shot and it's sad to know that it is a really hard career to get into. It was nice listening to how it was a struggle to get his first book publish but he kept pushing on and finally got his book published. It was really inspiring listening to him tell his story as I want to become a well known writer one day.

The host speaking to us was really nice. She was a lady like any other fangirl and it was really funny to watch an older person have the same opinions as us teens. The one thing I liked about this event was that it was all ages and it really opened my eyes to the fact that adults also read YA books. It's brilliant that Young Adult isn't just enjoyed by teens but can be enjoyed by anyone. It was fun meeting other people and fellow bloggers who enjoyed the same books as me. I met a really nice girl who owns Reading in the Dark. She just started blogging like me and it was great discussing with her about the pros and cons about blogging.

We also found out about upcoming dates for new releases which was great. I was able to add more books to my to-read pile which has finally started to die down. I am starting to focus more on the reading and less on the finding books. We got read out a few pages of Fiery Heart which has yet to come out so that was a special treat to all the Vampire Academy and Bloodlines fans. It was greatly entertaining watching all the fans groan when the host would stop reading as I knew they just wanted her to keep reading on. It was also funny because she couldn't give away any spoilers and it was obvious she was on the brink of exploding.

Kinokuniya book store is the best book store I have ever been to. I am definitely buying my books there from now on and it was so worth the long trip. I usually buy my books from Dymocks and I use to think that store was huge but now I realise it's a pale comparison to Kinokuniya. This book store had every book on my to-read list and it was heart breaking seeing all these new releases but not being able to buy anything. They had a massive YA section and not only that they had a whole section dedicated to Marvel and then another to manga. I have never found a book store with that much manga ever! Another thing that was a noticeable difference to me was that the books were cheaper! They were about $3-4 cheaper and it doesn't sound like much but when it comes to buying books it can be a great difference especially if you're buying a lot of books all together.

Overall I loved this book event as I have never been to one before. We don't really get good opportunities like this in Australia so this was a big deal to me. It was great meeting other people as well as other bloggers. I had fun listening to the host and joining in on discussions about the latest books and I'm glad it wasn't a waste of time. It was totally worth the trip down into the city and I hope there are more events to come!

Divergent News

I found some photos on the Divergent movie and I am getting so excited!

Stacking The Shelves 22/06/2013

So this is yet another Stacking The Shelves post hosted by Tynga's Reviews. I am sorry as there hasn't been very much activity on this blog, but it has been a busy last few weeks of school. But finally I am on a three week holiday so I have heaps of reading time. Now obviously I went to the library before the end of term and I was able to borrow 8 books! The librarian let me go two over the limit which is the best!!! I am not going to write heaps on each book as I have 8 books to get through.
So here is the first half of my pile of books:

1. Blood Red Road
I am really excited to read this book as I have gotten so many recommendations for this book. I have heard great things about it and the summary sounds really interesting.
2. Legacy
I have started reading this book and I really like the writing style. This is the typical princess sort of book ande I am excited to read it as I think it's good to read these sort of books every once in a while. I am expecting it to be a really cute and fluffy book but I never know, it could end surprising me in the end.
3. Life After Theft
I don't really know much about this book but I have seen it a lot in the blogosphere so I hope it's good.
4. Slated
My friend sunny who owns A Sunny Spot Blog said this was a really good book. Judging by her summary I have great expectations for it. It also sounds very interesting and I have never read a book like that but every book is unique.

The second half of the pile:
Obviously I am really excited to read this. I just can't wait to find out what happens. I'm so glad I finally got it in on reservation which took forever! Again this is a pretty cute and fluffy book on princesses which seems to be my thing at the moment.
When I read the summary on this book on Goodreads I have been waiting to read it. It's a dystopian that sounds really good and I again have high expectations for this book. If you have read this book feel free to drop a comment saying whether it was good or not but please no spoilers.
How can I not be excited to read this book? Divergent left me in quite a state and I must read this. I have heard Insurgent isn't as good as Divergent but I'm still going to read it as Alleigent is coming out soon!
I don't know much about this book, the thing that caught my attention was the cover. The summary sounds interesting enough but I don't have high expectations as I haven't heard much about it. But I like to pick up an unpopular books as I think every book has potential.

Overall I am very excited to read all these books so expect upcoming reviews! These weren't in a specific order so don't expect the reviews to be in order. It's whatever interests me most I guess. Anyway, if you have read any of these books please drop a comment about it.

Dark Kiss

Michelle Rowen

- Goodreads Summary -

I don't do dangerous.

Smart, über-careful, ordinary Samantha-that's me. But I just couldn't pass up a surprise kiss from my number-one unattainable crush. A kiss that did something to me...something strange. Now I feel hungry all the time, but not for food. It's like part of me is missing-and I don't know if I can get it back.

Then there's Bishop. At first I thought he was just a street kid, but the secrets he's keeping are as intense as his unearthly blue eyes. If he's what I think he is, he may be the only one who can help me. But something terrifying is closing in, and the one chance Bishop and I have to stop it means losing everything I ever wanted and embracing the darkness inside me....

NIGHTWATCHERS

When angels and demons must work together, something beyond evil is rising...
.

Review - No Spoilers

I only just finished reading this book on the bus and I must say I thoroughly enjoyed it. But I guess I say that about most books so this review is obviously to elaborate further into why I like it. This was a brilliant read because I have been on such a bad reading slump for this month due to all the work from school but I'm goad to say it's holidays at the end of this week so I am very excited.

The cover of this book is I must say very...*cough* eye catching. I'll admit it was the first thing that caught my attention but I felt extremely self-conscious when reading it because no guy would understand...For me the blurb didn't really do the book justice because when everyone read it they thought it would be bad. But I proved them all wrong! I never really say this much but I think the font is really elegant. It's a beautiful choice so I give whoever created the cover a round of applause.

Now to get on with the story, I liked the main character Samantha a lot. I enjoyed reading from her perspective as I found her really funny. Some of the lines in this book were very smart and I give Michelle Rowen thumbs up. You always want good humour in the book to keep you interested. The main character was realistic and easy to imagine which is always good and I liked the other character a lot. If you ever read it, Kraven is my favourite because he is so funny.

Another factor I liked about this novel was that it was Angel's and Demon's. I've just gotten into that whole craze from Sweet Evil and I am really liking it. I have sort of moved on from Vampires and Werewolf's so I think that's why I like this new genre.

A few things I didn't like about Dark Kiss was that it was kind of insta-lovey which was kind of annoying. It also has a bit of non-existent parents but that would be my only issues with this book.

Overall I loved this book. It took me a little longer than it should have due to a busy week and  reading slump. Again I don't understand why it received so many bad reviews and I definitely recommend it to anyone who loves Angel's and Demons and I suggest it to anyone who has never read that genre before.

Stacking the Shelves 15/06/2013

So this is yet another Stacking the Shelves post to keep you updated with what I'm reading and upcoming reviews which are sure to come soon.

As you know from last week I have been reading Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare. But due to a busy week I haven't been able to finish it which is extremely frustrating. I'm enjoying the book greatly so far but I am only at the beginning so I'm not too sure whether I like it. I started The Infernal Devices before The Mortal Instruments because I have heard so much talk about it, so I don't know whether that is effecting my view on the book. Of course I like Will at the moment, he is a really funny character who I enjoy reading. Tessa seems pretty cool as well and she doesn't annoy me which is great so I'll definitely keep reading on.

Another book that I have started is called Dark Kiss by Michelle Rowen. I like the author's writing style and again I like the characters in the book. The relationship between the main character and the others are truly hilarious and I can't wait to see what's going to happen. There is quite a lot of confusion as to who the main character is so I am excited to find out who or what she is!

I haven't started Evermore by Alyson Noel yet but I have heard many great reviews about it. I think it was the pretty cover which really drew me in so I am looking forward to reading it and hope my expectations are too high.

How Has Blogging Changed Me?

Discussion inspired by my best friend Sunny!

I was talking to my best friend Sunny who owns A Sunny Spot Blog (you should go check it out!) and we were having a discussion on how blogging changes how we read. We realized that it does effect how we view books greatly and that it has opened our eyes to a new world. If she hadn't gotten me into blogging and you asked me what I liked about the book, I would find extremely difficult to answer. My answer would usually be it's great or it was awesome. But when I started blogging I realised that I can explain it in more detail as when you blog you are analysing every factor in the novel. When we blog we are always constantly comparing to other books and asking ourselves why we enjoyed this book. We are always reading from a writers point of view.

I find that now that I started blogging I have a wider knowledge of books. I know what are the most favourite authors in the Young Adult genre. I have a wider range of genres that I enjoy. When I was younger I would pick up any book that would appeal to my interests. I would have never known what a Dystopian book is and I would have never picked it up. Also now that I started blogging I am always up to date with the latest crazes.

I think that blogging is a learning process that you can use in every day things. You learn to analyse more things and we know a good book when we see it. If you compare an avid reader who blogs to a non-reader and you tell them to read the same book and ask them why they liked it, you would obviously get a completely different answer. They may like it for the same reasons, but the blogger can explain it in more detail. I find that when I'm in class during English, I've definitely improved the way I answer the teachers questions.

In conclusion, blogging has definitely changed how I read and helped me in many ways that I am grateful for.

Shatter Me

By Tahereh Mafi

Juliette hasn't touched anyone in exactly 264 days.

'You can't touch me,' I whisper. I'm lying is what I don't tell him. He can touch me, is what I'll never tell him. Please touch me, is what I want to tell him.
But things happen when people touch me.
Strange things.
Bad things.
Dead things.

No one knows why Juliette's touch is fatal - but The Reestablishment has plans for her. Plans to use her as a weapon.
But Juliette has plans of her own.

After a lifetime without freedom, she's finally discovering a strength to fight back for the very first time - and to find a future with the one boy she thought she'd lost forever.

Review - No Spoilers

Shatter Me was a really interesting novel that I enjoyed so much. It has a futuristic setting that is so realistic it's quite unsettling. The description for the scenery was so well done you can imagine it really well in your mind which is a huge accomplishment for an author.

Now I'll start off with saying that the cover is interesting. I like how it says "My touch is Lethal. My touch is power." This is a perfect quote for the cover as it makes you immediately curious as to what it is about. I picked up this book without knowing anything about it and it did not disappoint me. There is nothing more that I hate than when a book wastes my time. I think the cover could have had a little more to it but I'm guessing it's to create curiosity which worked well for me. I saw it on a poster in my library and I immediately went to go find it. Another factor that drew my attention was the title, I find it quite intriguing and I think there could have been many possibility's with the title and after reading the novel I understand it much better.

The setting is very dark and scary and I felt very unnerved when reading this as the world could actually turn out like it is in this novel so you can tell the author spent a lot of time planning it. A lot of aspects of the books are very realistic but others are not, but this is expected as it is fiction. When your reading this novel it makes you imagine that life could eventually be like this and this put me in deep thought and I had to keep reminding myself that it was only a book. I got so engrossed in it I had to stop and take a few minutes because it brought out a lot of emotions in me which is another great accomplishment for an author. You know an author did a great job when it captivates your audience.

I absolutely loved the characters and the character development is brilliant. It's really interesting to read from the main characters - Juliette's - perspective. The writing style the author chose is very different to what I was use to and I found it slightly annoying when I read the first few chapter but you get used to it. I also realized why the author chose to write like this, as when you analyse the main character, you understand why the author writes this way. So I found this was a smart idea and it shows great skill and time spent on developing on the main character. This makes it again very realistic which is what the author would want.

With most books I can say you'll absolutely love it but this is a difficult novel to review. It's not a guarantee that you'll love it but that is with most books. It's either you like it or you don't and this is depending to your preferences of genres. A lot of people have said they didn't like this book and I'm not saying that's a bad thing. But you have to remember this is my opinion and my opinion only and it's up to you readers to either read it or not. It's up to you whether you like it or not and you shouldn't have to say you like it just because other people say it's good.

Overall I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was a pleasant surprise as I have never read this book and I didn't have high expectations as I have never really heard about it. I don't understand why it got so many bad reviews on Goodreads and I think people just need to give it a chance. I absolutely can't wait to read the next book and I know the next one is going to be more intense, jam-packed with action and I am dying to read it!

-GoodReads-

Review - No Spoilers

This book was really good.If you like a bit of crime fiction this is a good book for you. This has the right amount of romance and the right amount of suspense and mystery. I read this ages ago so this review won't be that thorough. But one important thing is that this book is either you don't like it or you like it. It's a difficult novel to write a review on as it has to really suite the interests to the reader.

The great thing as it's quite unique as there are some books where the main character is physic but this one is extremely different. I was impressed as her abilities are a lot different to the usual physics we would normally read. That's why I think the author did a great job with setting this novel apart from the rest.

Even if you don't really like murder stories I think this book could change your mind. It's good to get a break from the reoccurring plot-lines that seem to keep popping up everywhere. This is a really good book that keeps you on the edge of your seat as the suspense is just mind blowing. I recommend it even if you don't read many murder/crime genres.

Review - No spoilers

I really hate to start the month with this sort of review but, I really did not like this book. I have mixed feelings about this book and I still can't figure out whether I liked it or not. I'll start off with the cover, it is incredibly pretty and I love how it's got Kate on the front. I love the font of the title and it's just a really beautiful cover.

This book didn't live up to the potential that I thought it would. The first book Goddess Test was so good and this just really let me down. I hate saying bad things about books and I always strive to say only good things but this one just really angered me. I think it's just because once you read Percy Jackson you have a certain view on the Greek Gods. This book just destroyed it for me,,,

But if you love a heavy romance and Greek Mythology then this is definitely something you want to read. I personally didn't like it but I know a lot of other people did and obviously everyone is going to have a lot of different opinions and this is mine. But I still say go ahead and read the series it's still really good.

Spoiler Review - Major Rant - Read at your own risk

  • There were some major things that really pissed me off about this book. They spell Kronos, Cronus which is the Latinised version of it. I really didn't like and it just ticked me off every time I read it as Kronos with a 'K' is more accurate.
  • This was a major issue in the whole book, the whole time Kate is all self-pitying over the whole Henry S***. Ok honey let the man breathe and figure out his feelings towards you. Stop being so insecure, It's al right to be a little doubtful as I know if I was in that situation, I would have doubted myself for a while there too. NOT FOR THE WHOLE DAMN BOOK! And plus, she had all these people around her assuring her and she wouldn't take there damn word.
  • Also another thing, we only get like a tiny bit of the Henry that we see in the first book and that was in the end. He was all cute and we saw more of his feelings and emotions towards Kate. I just didn't like how he almost cried letting her go. HADES DOES NOT CRY!(in my mind) And why is he captured for like half the book. YOU DON'T KIDNAP GODS, LET ALONE HADES IN THE FREAKING UNDERWORLD. How does that even work?
  • And can I just say, what is with these Hera's in books being crazy. We get the same occurrence in Percy Jackson when he was kidnapped. BY HER! If she was real...I dunno what I'd do. I think I'd get a criminal record.
  • And why would Dylan (who is meant to be Ares) back down from war???!!! He is the God of War, that makes no sense. It just makes me question whether the author forgot that she changed the names and forgot who they originally were as gods. (And on top of that, HENRY backs down from the war. I see his reasoning but they need him.)
  • Don't even let me get started on Persephone, she needs to get out! She was such a home wrecker and it just made Kate's insecurities worse! Which then made me nearly quite reading the book. She was such an annoying character and I wish she would get along with Kate. That would be so cool, and I wish she never kissed Henry.
  • But I gotta say, I am impressed with the ending. Boy did that just...bring out emotion in me. I just, I cannot even comprehend what happened there, it all makes perfect sense but my brain won't register it. WHY! It means I have to go read the next book which is what I really don't wanna do but I have to! I did not see it coming from a mile, and I just suffered severe whiplash.
  • Ok Imma wrap this up. I have mixed feelings about this book. I loved it but I hated it. The writing was perfect...characters could use a lot of improving but I guess I should have seen it coming as it is a heavy romance. I'm not going to be a full on hater but I just think there could have been some improvements and it had so much potential.

House of Hades Cover Release!!!

Oh My Gosh I am SO excited and I know every other Percy Jackson fan is too. They just released the next book's cover for House of Hades and I just don't know what to say...I was trying to keep down my Percy Jackson withdrawal but this was just a nice slap to face basically saying:
"How can you try and forget Percy Jackson?"
Well my answer to that is, "Mark of Athena killed me inside and I needed healing and forgetting was the only way. Only way..."
The Expected Publication date is October 8th
Anyways back to the book cover. IT IS EPIC. Here you go!!! *drum roll*

There is no other word to explain it but Epic. We have some nice Percabeth, my favourite couple on the front and you can see the doors to tartarus! I can tell by the book cover that the book is going to be awesome. But that's Rick Riordan for you.
All the fans have multiple theories of whats going to happen. I'm hoping we get to see what's happening with Camp Half-blood and the Romans as they are in the middle of war. I am definitely hoping we have some scenes with Percy and Anabeth and judging by the cover, I am guessing there will be. I want some more POV's from Anabeth as I found that really interesting. I honestly would like much less Piper and maybe Nico, that could be very interesting.

May Conclusion

I guess it's not too late to write this but I'd like to do a little wrap up. This month during May was the start of  my blog and I have enjoyed every minute of it. I tried to put a lot of time and effort into starting it up and I hope I've made a good job. My reviews have made great progress and I think I've now gotten the hang of it and I've really been trying to make the reviews longer. Now I think it comes more naturally as I know what I want to say. I think making a blog shows a bit of courage as it's hard to just put yourself out there in the blogosphere and it can be very intimidating as everything you say is viewed by other people.
I'd like to give a thanks to my friend who got me into blogging. She owns A Sunny Spot Blog and I think you should go check it out as it looks awesome. I'd also liked to give a thanks to the group on GoodReads called Teen Blogger. They have been a massive help with starting up the blog. I appreciate it heaps and I think it was a brilliant idea to start the group. All the people on it are friendly and if your looking to start a blog, this is the best group to find the best tips and latest news on books.

Overall making this blog was so fun and I am definitely continuing it.

For June my goal is to (obviously) read more books. I want to continue on with my reading challenge which is to reach 40 books this year. I also want to keep posting reviews and hope that they grow and become more detailed. And I especially hope that it actually helps to anyone reading them as it would make this blog slightly pointless.

Thank you
